Staff care
We take staff care very seriously. All our staff benefit from a comprehensive range of measures, aimed at helping them get the most from their career and personal development potential, and supporting them in their daily working life. These include:
Staff accord. Sets out what is expected of staff and what you should be able to expect from the council.
Appraisal. A positive process that encourages your manager to feedback positive comments about your performance and to agree your targets, development needs and career plans for the next year.
Supervision policy. Helping you to manage your workload effectively.
Acceptable behaviour policy. The policy defines a number of principles and sets out procedures that ensure that behaving in an acceptable manner is the norm for all staff in Devon County Council.
Wellbeing@Work Service. Providing support and assistance for all staff whose physical or psychological wellbeing is adversely affected by work-related issues, or personal matters that may affect them at work.
Pay and conditions. Including paid holiday, sick pay, compassionate leave and a pension scheme.
Work-life balance policy. Enabling staff to get a better balance between work and their lives outside work, while making the organisation more effective. This means using policies like flexitime, career breaks, job share and home working to encourage greater flexibility.
Trade unions. Consultative committees provide access for the views of staff to be made known to officers and councillors through representation by recognised trade unions.
Reducing stress policy. Our stress management strategy and policy aim to reduce excessive workplace pressure and help staff maintain, and even enhance, their sense of wellbeing.
Risk management. We have robust health and safety and risk assessment policies.
Managing absence. We are committed to managing attendance and sickness absence.
