Youth support
The Youth Support Teams work with young people aged 10-18 years who are experiencing difficulties in their lives and whose needs have been assessed by Devon Children and Young People’s Services in line with the Department's categorisation of need. This support is in line with the requirements of the Children Act 1989, particularly in relation to children in need. The service aims to supply a broad range of support to meet the varied individual needs of young people, including:
- To provide a preventative service to help young people overcome difficulties they may be experiencing.
- To help young people become independent by building up personal resources and skills.
- To help young people stay within their family, networks or community.
- To extend the young person's range of choices, which may in turn promote a better quality of life.
- To act as an advocate for and represent young people's needs to all of the agencies they come into contact with.
- To work alongside other agencies, where appropriate, to help young people with the difficulties they are facing in their lives.
