About CYPS

Devon County Council’s Children and Young People’s Services (CYPS) provides a wide range of services to help and support children and families. By combining social care and education we are able to provide an integrated service delivery.

We work with children and young people in a range of areas including:

Assessment and Early Intervention. This service provides our initial response to the public. We offer a rapid response to childcare concerns and operate a threshold unit (developing consistent and appropriate thresholds across agencies and organisations) a family support service and we are developing strong links with AXS co-ordinators, who co-ordinate services for children in need in the county.

Children in Care and Care Leavers. Providing social work services to all of Devon’s children in care and care leavers. This also includes provision of Ofsted regulated services for fostering, adoption and residential care.

Joint Agency Services. We are actively pursuing the modernisation and integration agenda with the NHS in our Joint Agency Service for children with special needs. These teams combine CYPS staff with health professionals across the county and have joint management arrangements.

Safeguarding. We provide a special geographically-based service to all Devon children who need a Safeguarding Plan.

Integrated Youth Support Service. We are developing an integrated youth support service which will include Connexions, the Youth Offending Service and the Youth Service. This will ensure a joined-up approach and better outcomes for young people aged 13-19 years.

The Devon Children’s Trust. One of 35 Pathfinder Trusts in the country, is a partnership between statutory and voluntary agencies which provide services to children in Devon. Working in an integrated way to give all children and young people the best possible start in life underpins the work of CYPS and the Devon Children’s Trust.
