Devon County Council is the second largest authority in England. We proudly serve over 740,000 people and provide them with a wide range of services, from schools to social care, and libraries to recycling and waste disposal.
We see a brighter future for everyone living in our beautiful county. Our aim is to improve quality of life for all, whether it is the lives of children and young people, families, adults, or vulnerable individuals. We want to provide the best possible public services that meet local needs in a cost-effective way, by involving local residents and encouraging them to tell us what is important to them. In addition to this, we have an on-going objective to be England’s greenest county where there is independence and choice for all.
Our Strategic Plan will ensure everyone who lives in Devon enjoys fulfilling, prosperous lives and sustainable futures, amongst strong, safe and caring communities. We have a commitment to protecting vulnerable children, adults and families, and also providing the appropriate support for carers.
Everything we do will be underpinned by our core principles
- Care - To deliver high quality services that care for Devon, its residents and environment.
- Community - Work with local people to help build strong and prosperous communities and ensure a sustainable future for all.
- Enterprise - To promote enterprise and help develop a competitive economy as the key to a better quality of life for all.
- Value - To be a businesslike Council that is lean and focussed, providing good value for money.
We are working hard to enable every child in Devon to have the best possible start in life. Equally that young people are supported, listened to, and equipped with skills they need to live fulfilling lives and contribute positively to Devon’s economy and culture. We’re also mindful that our population is getting older – in just 10 years, there will be 20% more people aged 65 or over. We will ensure that those elderly people living in our wonderful county can access modernised care services and are able to live independent lives.
Our plans are ambitious, but by working together, we will ensure that Devon is a great place to live.
